Rocky River City Council Approves Smoking and Vaping Ban on Public Property

The Rocky River City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing public health and safety by approving a ban on smoking and vaping tobacco and marijuana products on all city-owned public property.

This new ordinance, effective immediately, prohibits smoking and vaping not only inside public facilities but also in outdoor areas, including adjacent lawns and sidewalks, public parks, pavilions, and sports parks.

While this ban aims to create a healthier environment for all residents, it is important to clarify that it does not extend to all city sidewalks or roads. Citizens can still smoke or vape while driving or in areas not adjacent to public properties. Law Director Michael O’Shea emphasized the city’s commitment to making parks and outdoor spaces enjoyable for everyone, stating, “We thought we’d extend the prohibition to places like our parks and areas where people congregate outside.”

Those who violate this ordinance may face misdemeanor charges. As a legal group committed to community well-being, Lipson O'Shea encourages all residents to respect this new policy, ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for all who enjoy Rocky River's public spaces.
